I wrote a kernel module, and sometimes it has a bug dereference a NULL pointer. After I insmod hello. Then I change the code, and try to remove the module and install it again. The question is: I don't know how to remove the kernel module.
I always reboot the machine in order to remove the module, which takes too long. Does anyone have a better solution for this? Thanks for any inputs. Once you make a NULL dereference or other such mistake, you've put the kernel into an unknown state.
Even if you did manage to remove the module which is unlikely to be possible; a kernel OOPS kills the calling thread, so it'll never have a chance to reduce the reference count - the module will never be removable there may still be corruption left behind, and your new, 'fixed' module is just as likely to be in trouble. Much better to just use a fast-to-reboot virtual machine - perhaps with a snapshot, to make restoration even faster. Learn more. How to remove a failed kernel module Ask Question.

I think im missing something because on doing sudo nvidia-settings the output is. I have faced this issue with previous installations as well therefore im, its something that im definitely doing wrong. The thread suggests adding user to bumblebee group. I have already added but Im still facing the same issue. Anyway, at first I'd checked if all packages are synced: sudo pacman -Syu. Then install video-linux. The reinstall video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-bumblebee. This is a simple sequence of steps that generally should provide you with working Bumblebee solution.
Never do that on laptops with Bumblebee. Bumblebee needs bbswitch to load and unload nvidia module. Do lsmod grep bb to see if it is loaded. If it is not, then Bumblebee service will fail to work properly.
I have one, it works. Well it depends you know. If I were a newcomer to Manjaro facing such issue I'd surely ragequitted without delay. What you'd do with such log I wonder? You see, the problem is not that simple. Xrandr is surely installed, I use it for setting extra resolutions with higher refresh rates, and no, it is not the reason of blinking.
It's from journalctl -b -1 -p3 indicating those endless Xorg crashes screen blinking: each blink - core dump I mentioned earlier. By posting that I wanted to say that despite being a little experienced user, I have no idea how to deal with such logs to figure out the reason of crashes. F for frustration.

Yep, those are installed, bumblebee service is stopped and disabled of course, and yeah, optimus-manager was meant. Oh this had hit me upon an idea to check modprobe.

When the diagnostic is running, it displays the test progress on the screen in the following format:. When completed, the diagnostic will return 0 to the shell if completed normally. If an error occurs, it will return 1 to the shell, and if a retest is required it will return 2. The name of the log file incorporates basic test result information as well as the serial number of the board under test:.
If multiple cards in the system are tested, the serial number of the first GPU is incorporated into the name of the log file. If a problem prevents reading the serial number from the card, the returned file name will not contain the serial number. Note: You can override the default log file name by using the command line option logfilename. Table 1 lists the optional command line arguments and provides a brief description of each. Further explanation is given in the next section.
Enable graphics capability useful for additional test coverage. See requirements for using this option in section 2. Prevents the test progress from being displayed on the screen see 2. To run the field diagnostic with graphics mode enabled, the field diagnostic must be run directly after a reboot cycle without the NVIDIA driver loaded. Additionally, after the field diagnostic is completed, a reboot is required to restore the card to normal operation.
Linux manufacturing Field Diagnostics requires a minimum kernel version of 2.How to scan multiple pages on a printer

The system on which Field Diagnostics is run must be built on glibc To determine glibc version, type:. Linux manufacturing Field Diagnostics includes a kernel module. The purpose of this module is to expose certain kernel-mode APIs to Field Diagnostics, which runs as a user-mode application.Feature request: diff branches, tags and commits
In order to be able to install the kernel module, the system must contain configured kernel sources and development tools, including make and gcc. Without them it is not possible to compile the kernel module. Use package manager provided by your distribution to install kernel sources.
Typically the package name is kernel-sources or linux-sources. For example, on Debian type:. However if Field Diagnostics is not run by the root user, it is necessary to install the kernel module, which is recommended. Killing X is also recommended even if it is using vesa or fb driver. Some newer Linux distributions include the nouveau driver in the kernel. This driver performs a kernel mode set and it also supports a framebuffer console.
For Field Diagnostics to function correctly, this driver has to be unloaded preferably blacklisted so that it is not automatically loaded at boot.Depending on the nature of the problem, one of or a combination of these kernel parameters might also help:.
The problem may also be caused by MSI compatibility problems. See MSI Interrupts for details. An edge-triggered interrupt means that the kernel has programmed the interrupt as edge-triggered rather than level-triggered in the Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller APIC. Edge-triggered interrupts are not intended to be used for sharing an interrupt line between multiple devices; level-triggered interrupts are the intended trigger for such usage.
When using edge-triggered interrupts, it is common for device drivers using that interrupt line to stop receiving interrupts. This would appear to the end user as those devices no longer working, and potentially as a full system hang. These problems tend to be more common when multiple devices are sharing that interrupt line.
It may also occur when ACPI is disabled, or fails to initialize. In some cases the system BIOS assumes ACPI will be used for routing interrupts and configures these tables to incorrectly label all interrupts as edge-triggered. The Linux kernel also provides an interrupt polling mechanism you can use to attempt to work around this problem.
This mechanism can be enabled by passing the 'irqpoll' option to the kernel. Currently, the NVIDIA driver will attempt to detect edge triggered interrupts and X will purposely fail to start to avoid stability issues. This parameter defaults to "1", which enables the edge triggered interrupt detection. Set this parameter to "0" to disable this detection.Xml schema pdf
If X starts but you have trouble with OpenGL, you most likely have a problem with other libraries in the way, or there are stale symlinks. Sometimes, all it takes is to rerun ldconfig. If these two extensions are not present, then there is most likely a problem loading the glx module, or it is unable to implicitly load GLcore. When Xinerama is enabled, my stereo glasses are shuttering only when the stereo application is displayed on one specific X screen.
When the application is displayed on the other X screens, the stereo glasses stop shuttering. This problem occurs with DDC and "blue line" stereo glasses, that get the stereo signal from one video port of the graphics card. When a X screen does not display any stereo drawable the stereo signal is disabled on the associated video port.

If no GPU-based programs are running, you know that your kernel supports module unloading, and you still receive this message, then an error may have occured that has corrupted an NVIDIA kernel module's usage count, for which the simplest remedy is to reboot your computer. Any help to finish the installation nvidia drivers?
